Reduce the Risk of Unnecessary Financial Responsibility
A number of steps can be taken to reduce the risk of being burdened with undue financial responsibility:
- Prior to surgery, complete any requested pre-authorization forms asking you to give explicit permission to providers to bill on your behalf for services provided.
- After surgery, if you get an EOB that has not paid for any portion of the services rendered, contact your insurance company and request that they re-process your claim immediately. Your insurance company has a contractual obligation to re-process your claim in a timely manner.
- If you receive a letter in the mail requesting your written permission to access your benefits to process a claim, complete the letter and mail it back. Also, take the time to call your insurance company and have them record your approval to process the claim.
